The spirit of London 2012 was well and truly alive and kicking in Brewood today as Brewood Middle School held their annual sports day.
If any of the organisers of the London games had been present there’s no doubt that they would have been enthused by the level of ability, commitment, enjoyment and respect on display.
The day got underway with an energetic opening ceremony. Children from the neighbouring St. Mary & St. Chad First School were invited to enjoy the start of the day and watch some of the early events.
In excess of 125 events took place throughout the day which was enjoyed by a healthy crowd of spectators who managed to take advantage of some extremely kind weather after Thursday’s storms.
In addition to the great ability on view everyone showed tremendous determination, courage and camaraderie living up to the theme of the day – ‘Be the best you can be.’
Summing up, Mr. Swift, Headteacher, paid tribute to everyone involved including competitors, teachers, helpers and sponsors. He also praised the efforts of Mr. Downes for his organisation of the event, an event that has been in the planning for 12 months.
Mr. Downes was afforded the honour of announcing the final results with congratulations due to Stretton in the Boys event, Weston in the Girls event and Stretton again in the overall competition.
In truth all the competitors were winners and if London 2012 takes place with the same spirit, effort and determination on view the games will be a joy to watch.
