History
Coven Ramblers originally started to lead local walks after a request by the Brewood and Coven parish council for someone to lead local walks after the last foot and mouth outbreak, which Glen Sibley agreed to undertake.
The group existed successfully for a number of years but Coven Ramblers was formed to explore walks beyond the parish boundaries.
With so many beauty spots close by Glen decided to start the independent walking group to incorporate walks within the parish but to also expand out to some of the nearby walks in areas like Cannock Chase, Ironbridge, The Wrekin, Much Wenlock, The Roaches and others.
Current
The group is still supported by Brewood and Coven Parish Council and their policy is to allow any interested parties to join the monthly Sunday Morning walks.
The size of the group is usually between 10 & 20 Walkers.
Walks take place on the first Sunday of each month whatever the weather, and walks are approximately 5 to 6 miles in length.
Slower walkers are always welcome and there is always a leader and a trailer so nobody can get left behind. A refreshment stop is always planned for about half distance for which walkers should bring their own refreshments.
The group also has a traditional Boxing Day walk when they meet at a local pub Car Park and have a social drink at the end.
With any new walkers the group offers advice on Walking Attire, Boots, Walk conduct etc. They can also provide training in Map Reading, Orienteering, Digital Mapping and GPS Systems.
